Supermoto

Don't miss this exciting combination of road race and motocross styles showcasing world-class riding at VMS!

Supermoto

Mix knee-dragging road race and high-flying motocross styles into one bar-bashing motor sport that’s twice as exciting… that’s supermoto!

Tracks are a combination of 80% asphalt and 20% dirt, with jumps, berms and bikes drifting sideways on the pavement. It’s the urban evolution of motorcycle racing and the podium goes to the best all-around rider.

Wildly popular in Europe and growing quickly in North America, the sport has fully arrived in British Columbia with a Championship race series that attracts world-class racers such as JD Beach and Jacob Lehmann as well as entire families racing in their own competitive classes. Come check out the supermoto demonstration and see some familiar faces vying for the 2010 Vancouver Motorcycle Show Championship bragging rights! And don’t miss our kid’s demos, you’ll be amazed what our junior racers can do!

Supermoto Riders - Just a few of the hooligans you'll see during our Supermoto Demos!

Patrick Cassidy

Patrick Cassidy joins us from South of the 49th for most of our racing events, along with our other very dedicated American supermoto counterparts such as Ron West. How Patrick got into supermoto... was an accident. He wanted a dual sport bike, and a coworker, Roger, found one through his supermoto connections. It was set up to race, and Patrick thought, "what the heck?". Patrick had only a couple years of street riding experience and thought it would be a good opportunity to gain experience in a safe way. That was about six or seven years ago. From the start, he loved the people and the atmosphere, so much so that he rode at the very back of the pack for the first four years! The people involved in supermoto are great everywhere. Supermoto events here in Vancouver are smooth and fun every time. Patrick can't wait for the 2010 season!

Dave Klassen

Dave Klassen proudly represents Central British Columbia supermoto enthusiasts, often along with his good buddy Ian Leuenberger. After easily capturing the 2008 Supermoto Lites National and Provincial Championships, Dave decided to pick up a Kawasaki 450 and try his hand with the big bikes for 2009. He quickly discovered his strong motocross background combined with the power of a 450 gave him a competitive edge in the Expert class, where he quickly proved himself a force to be reckoned with. We expect to see more Expert podiums for him in the 2010 season.

Greg Wardrope

Greg Wardrope is possibly poised to capture the 2010 Expert Championship. Since first setting foot on the track in mid-2008, Greg has worked his way up the grid through Novice and Intermediate classes until he finally captured 1st Place Expert during the last round of racing in 2009. He is the owner/operator of WAR Motorsports in Abbotsford, which also supports the race series through product sponsorship. Come out and see if Greg can defend his winning streak!

The Supermoto Kids

Lachlan Ramsay

Lachlan is a 10 year Supermoto rider from Maple Ridge. Lachlan learned to ride his first Honda 50 bike in the backyard when he was 7 years old. From the backyard, Lachlan moved to the back woods and trails around Maple Ridge which helped improve his balance, coordination and confidence. This past summer, Lachlan moved up to a Honda 70cc and competed in the Supermoto Series at Tradex sponsored by RPM, where he clinched the title of National Champion in August and 2nd in Provincial Youth Championships. According to Lachlan his favorite thing about racing is having fun, competing with friends and learning from “the big guys”.

Tyler Sweet

This 11 year old from Maple Ridge has been riding anything with wheels from an early age. He was recently lucky enough to get a Yamaha PW80 for which his parents’ lawn paid the toll. After about 30 seconds of convincing by the rest of the clan he became the “fourth child” in the youth class of the 2009 RPM series. He achieved a 2nd Place National Youth, 3rd Place Provincial Youth for the series. Tyler’s favourite thing about racing is all the sour candies stored in the bike trailer and the endless friendly competition.

Katelynn Thompson

This 13 years old started riding when she was 11 on a Honda 70cc around the gravel road on 256th, where she quickly gained the confidence to want to ride the track at Nickel Mine. Now two years have passed and she has decided that Supermoto would be the next endeavour. Her consistent riding method finally paid off on the last round of the RPM series at the Chilliwack cart track when she “finally finished ahead of my little brother”. Being the only girl to compete, she took 1st Place Provincial Female Champion but what she really wants is a bigger bike to beat the boys.

Bradley a.k.a. "Crash" Thompson

Bradley is an 11 year old rider from Maple Ridge.  He has enjoyed putting his little Yamaha PW80 through some trials at Tailings Pond, snow at Chipmunk and now loves the dirt and pavement sections of Supermoto. He was quite pleased with a 1st Place Provincial Youth Champion and a 3rd Place National Youth podium for the 2009 series of Supermoto by RPM. His favourite part of the 2009 Supermoto series was the training day by Dylan on the dirt section.
